12 Children all set to participate in the 36th International Children’s Festival to be held in Turkey from 16th to 23rd April 2014.

Dr. Erna Athanasius, Ambassador for Women and Children will depart for Gaziantep, Republic of Turkey accompanied by Mr Bennet Accouche, Artistic Director, and twelve talented children to represent Seychelles at the 36th ‘23rd April’ International Children’s Festival.
These young ’Ambassadors of Culture’ will perform our traditional Creole dances; a platform to showcase the diverse blend of influence from all continents that makes Seychelles’ rhythm and culture positively unique.
The Republic of Turkey is the birthplace of the “23rd April International Children’s Festival” which has been celebrated every year since 1979. The initiative was spearheaded by the founder of the modern Turkish State, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who gifted this festival initially to the Turkish children, marking the opening of the Assembly in 1920. The Festival sought to bring children together from all over the world to foster lasting friendships; preparing them for a future of peace and harmony. The Seychellois children will join others from over 116 countries who have participated in the past, to promote these universal values.
Ambassador Athanasius paid tribute to all the sponsors whose support facilitated children’s participation in Gaziantep. She is quoted as saying “Our participation would not have seen the light of day without your kind support and encouragement.”
Ambassador Athanasius hailed the fundraising event held at the International Conference Centre Seychelles on the 29th of March as a great success and in particular singled out the musical groups ‘Amigos’ and ‘The Breeze’ for special acclaim for raising funds for the children.
Minister St Ange, commended the Ambassador’s efforts to promote Seychelles culture abroad through the children. He stated that it is precisely what the Seychelles Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture are doing both locally and abroad and thanked the Ambassador for her excellent endeavour.
The main sponsors were awarded with Certificates of Appreciation as a small token of recognition for their contributions to the children.
“Your belief in our children’s ability to represent Seychelles abroad is encouraging and heart-warming and we would like to honour you all…” the Ambassador stated.
Ambassador Erna Athanasius mentioned that she is extremely proud to lead the children’s delegation to Turkey and is confident that they will do Seychelles proud and show the world the vibrant culture of our determined and proud island nation!
