Secretary General of COMESA pays courtesy call on Minister Radegonde

H. E. Ms. Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) paid a courtesy call today, on Minister Radegonde, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. The Secretary General of COMESA is on a 3-day official visit, where she will be meeting various high ranking government officials including the President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan.

Minister Radegonde welcomed Ms. Kapwepwe and her delegation to the Seychelles Foreign Affairs Ministry and proceeded to express his appreciation on behalf of the government for all the support COMESA has extended to the Seychelles throughout the years of membership and particularly for the special consideration given to matters of interest to Seychelles. Minister Radegonde also took the opportunity to commend the remarkable work that Ms. Kapwepwe has been doing since being sworn in as the Secretary General of COMESA in July 2018.

The tête a tête was an opportunity for both parties to discuss areas of cooperation such as trade, technical assistance facilities, among others. Minister Radegonde assured the Secretary General and her delegation of the commitment of the Seychelles to continue working with the regional organisation.

On her part, the Secretary General expressed her appreciation for the great hospitality they have received since their arrival. “I would like to put on record that Seychelles is a very active member of COMESA on the selected area in which you participate andyour commitment by paying the subscription on time which is quite commendable especially proceeding the impact of covid-19 affecting some of our members,” expressed the Secretary General. She further extended an invitation to the President of the Republic through the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Head of State and Government Summit of COMESA in November 2021; the virtual summit will be hosted by the Government of Egypt.

Also present at the meeting were the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, Director General for Regional Affairs, Mr. Steve Lalande and other senior officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
