9th India-Seychelles Joint Commission, Mahé, Seychelles, 15th May 2018

The 9th India-Seychelles Joint Commission was held at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles on 14-15 May 2018. This was co-chaired by Secretary of State and Executive Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles, Ambassador Barry Faure and the Foreign Secretary of India, H.E Mr. Vijay Gokhale.
The meeting reaffirmed the close friendship, common interests and values that are the foundation of the strong relationship between Seychelles and India.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral, political and economic relations, expressing satisfaction on the progress achieved in various areas of cooperation since the 8th India-Seychelles Joint Commission that was held in New Delhi, India in 2013. They further agreed to explore other areas of cooperation in fields such as family affairs, gender, population, space, science & technology, trade and commerce, solid waste management and forestry management, amongst others.
The Parties further exchanged views on regional and multilateral co-operation. They also took the opportunity to review the status of preparations for the first state visit of President Danny Faure to India in June 2018.
At its conclusion, both parties expressed appreciation for the Joint Commission which has provided an excellent platform for dialogue and cooperation since the last Joint Commission in 2013. The parties, demonstrated their commitment to increase cooperation and agreed to hold the 10th India-Seychelles Joint Commission in 2020 in New Delhi, India.
