Accreditation of UNDP Resident Representative to Seychelles

The new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative to Seychelles, H.E. Ms. Amanda Serumaga, presented her credentials to Vice-President Vincent Meriton, today at Maison Queau de Quincy.
The Vice President conveyed welcoming greetings to Her Excellency and expressed his gratitude for UNDP’s support over the years. “UNDP has its people at the center to help build institutions and programmes that have gotten Seychelles far with the actualities of the region and the world,” said Vice President Meriton. Additionally, the Vice President highlighted the crucial role that the UNDP has had in supporting the country’s development programmes and hoped that UNDP will remain a faithful partner in continuing this journey with Seychelles.
During their meeting, Vice President Meriton availed the opportunity to mention areas of cooperation such as the blue economy, climate change, and health. The Vice President added, “ We would be grateful for UNDP’s expertise that would elevate us to a higher level of sustainable development.”
Ms. Serumaga, thanked the Vice President for his welcome. “During my tenure, I wish to work with your government closely” assured Her Excellency. Now that Seychelles has reached the status of a high-income country, Ms. Serumaga specified the desire of UNDP to assist Seychelles with articulating the specific challenges of such a status. In addition to expressing her full support, she also commended Seychelles for its leadership role with the blue economy and for putting a lot of effort in targeting issues specific to poverty alleviation.
Her Excellency also met with the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait, to further discuss potential collaborative efforts between UNDP and Seychelles.
