Ambassador Madeleine accredited to the United States of America

Mr Ian Dereck Joseph Madeleine officially became a member of the Diplomatic Corps in Washington on December 1st, 2021. Ambassador Madeleine’s letters of credentials were formally accepted by the President of the United States of America, Mr Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., making him the 7th Seychelles Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary accredited to the United States of America.

Due to the exigencies of the COVID 19 pandemic, President Biden officialised Ambassador Madeleine’s accreditation by issuing a signed Acceptance Statement. In his statement, President Biden stated that: “Your arrival in Washington is important in many ways. It signifies the more than 45 years of friendship between our nations and our ensuring commitment to trade, investment, security, and democratic traditions. Seychelles is integral to ensuring an Indian Ocean safe from maritime piracy, terrorism, and narcotics and arms trafficking, and we continue to rely on our partnership and cooperation in the field of maritime security”. He concluded his statement by expressing the US government’s desire to advance the two countries’ agendas and deepen their strong and abiding friendship.
