COMFWB Delegation Meets Seychelles Ambassador to Advance Youth and Women’s Economic Empowerment
On Thursday, 20 November 2025, Ambassador Beryl Samson met a delegation led by Mr. Miti Chikakula, Chief Executive Officer of the COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB). The delegation is in Seychelles as part of a regional due-diligence mission under the African Union Development Agency – New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) “Creating Opportunities for Youth and Women in Africa” (COYWA) Programme.
Mr. Chikakula explained that the purpose of the visit is to assess the readiness of Seychelles’ programmes and evaluate how effectively the regional integration agenda is being implemented in the areas of trade, industry and the Blue Economy.
Discussions also focused on the Business Incubator Programme for Enhancing Competitiveness and Access to Markets of Women MSME Entrepreneurs, Start-ups and Youth, through Value Addition of Agricultural Produce that is expected to be launched in Seychelles in June 2026. The project will support innovative technologies, farming initiatives and craft development. Mr. Chikakula noted that following the launch, COMFWB will provide capacity-building initiatives to equip young entrepreneurs with the skills needed to produce high-value goods for niche markets.
The delegation also highlighted COMFWB’s continued efforts to strengthen the role of women in the economy by promoting financial literacy, project design and access to micro-credit facilities. COMFWB will also engage closely with financial institutions to ensure their support in facilitating funding opportunities for women entrepreneurs.
Both parties agreed that establishing a Steering Committee will be essential to drive and coordinate the implementation of the incubation project in Seychelles.
