The newly accredited Ambassador to Seychelles, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Abdulghani Khayat of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, today paid a courtesy visit to the Principal Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. The Ambassador was accredited on Tuesday 25 February in a ceremony at the Statehouse.

PS Confait welcomed and reiterated wishes of congratulations to the newly accredited Ambassador on behalf of the government and the people of Seychelles. “It is my hope that during your tenure, we may explore the way forward together, in order to further our bilateral ties in such sectors of mutual importance,” expressed PS Confait.

In her address, PS Confait further added that “Climate change is one that affects all countries and Seychelles is also a leader in the promotion of climate change with the aim to mitigate some of the impact of climate change and especially in Small Island States.”

We know that Seychelles is one of the leaders in climate change, a factor that affects all the whole world which is why we are having the summit next year. Blue economy and climate change are all connected so we must find areas where we can work on through a conference and discuss with Saudi Authority where we can assist the country,” expressed H.E Khayat.

Amongst topics of discussions were the Tourism sector where both parties pointed out that more can be done: “We would like to encourage more visitors on our shores as Seychelles is highly dependent on the tourism industry” expressed the PS. On his part, H.E invited Seychelles delegation to participate in the tourism conferences in Saudi Arabia for more exposure.

Seychelles and Saudi Arabia established bilateral relations in 2000.
