The Cuban Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, declared that,”Seychelles and Cuba have special relations despite being so distant geographically”.  Minister Bruno made this statement during a bilateral meeting with Ambassador Barry Faure, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, who was on an official visit to Cuba from 16th – 18th September 2018.

The two countries share historic relations and have mutually supported each other as developing countries aspiring to achieve socio-economic development for their peoples.  Bilateral cooperation spans a wide range of fields, including health, education, environment, agriculture and climate change.

Over the years, more than 200 students have been trained in Cuba in different areas. Currently, about 64 Cuban doctors support Seychelles’ public health system.

Given the extent of the relations, in April 2017, Seychelles opened an embassy which forms part of the significant number of diplomatic missions that Cuba presently hosts.  Last April, Seychelles and Cuba celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Mrs Lalatiana Accouche, who functions as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Head of the Seychelles Embassy in Havana, also accompanied Ambassador Faure in the various talks he had during the visit.
