Dr. Marina Confait, Principal Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs leads the Seychelles delegation at the 36th Session of the African Union Executive Council

The 36th Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6th to 7th February 2020, rallies together the foreign ministers and representatives of Member State countries to partake in rich dialogues and open exchanges on pertinent issues of concern to the African continent.

This year’s Summit is being organised against the backdrop of the theme “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development”, also one of the flagship projects of Agenda 2063.

As a nation that has always placed stability and peace as core principles of its national agenda, Seychelles therefore strongly regards the AU 2020 theme as critical in spearheading the continent’s aspirations to achieve, sustain, defend and enjoy peaceful, stable and secure existence.

This session additionally provides an important platform for the sharing of experiences on the possibilities that the African continent boasts as a land of hope, opportunities and dreams that together these nations may safeguard and achieve through the silencing of guns in Africa and the world as a whole.

During the exchanges, the country representatives will also address matters related to structural reforms of the AU, Agenda 2063, the African Continental Free Trade Area amongst other pertinent matters.

Dr. Marina Confait is accompanied by Mr. Wills Agricole, Principal Secretary for Energy and Climate Change, Ambassador David Pierre, Seychelles Permanent Representatives to the African Union, as well as other senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Seychelles Embassy in Addis Ababa and the Department of the Blue Economy.
