EASF Peace Fund Preparatory conference held as Seychelles Chairs Grouping

The Republic of Seychelles has taken on the chairmanship of the East Africa Standby Force. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Joël Morgan has hosted the East Africa Standby Force Peace Fund Preparatory Conference Committee held yesterday at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay.

The Peace Fund is an initiative of the EASF to mobilise baseline resources for deployment and sustainment of its standby force in the Eastern African Region.

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Defence and Security of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, Minister Joel Morgan, expressed his commitment to ensure that the Seychelles provides good leadership for the organization, pointed out that one of the challenges facing the EASF as the ability to mobilize resources given that the organization has attained Full Operational Capability.

Minister Morgan held a bilateral meeting with General James Kabarebe, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Rwanda and the Chairperson of the Steering Committee and discussed way forward in relation to the Peace Fund conference  for which Rwanda has the responsibility of organizing.

Minister Morgan met with the Director of the EASF Secretariat, Ambassador Chanfi Issimail and with Head of Political Affairs of the EASF, Mr Benediste Hoareau to establish source funding for the Peace Fund and to discuss his vision for the EASF during his chairmanship.
