Eastern Africa Standby Force pays courtesy call on the Department of Foreign Affairs

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Election observers’ team paid a courtesy call on the Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and the Blue Economy, Ambassador Barry Faure and the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait, today at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. The team consisted of the Head of Mission, Mr. Dawit Assefa, Information Manager, Mr. Jules Hoareau and Head of Human Resources and Finance, Ms. Lina Hoareau.

Ambassador Faure expressed appreciation of Seychelles to EASF who made it an obligation to participate as observers in the Seychelles’ Presidential and Legislative elections although in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Department confirmed that EASF is the only international organization involved in this year’s elections. The team consists of nine observers from six different African countries namely; Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda.

In terms of transparency, their presence is crucial to provide credibility and legitimacy to our electoral process. The observers shared their experience of the first day of election which took place on Thursday 22nd October 2020 and are looking forward to the main Election Day on Saturday 24th October 2020.

The Government of Seychelles remains committed to continue the excellent cooperation with the Eastern Africa Standby Force in promoting peace and security in the region.
