Ethiopia launches new visa-on-arrival and E-visa arrangements for African citizens
In line with the African Union agenda of free movement of people within the continent, Ethiopia has, as of October 30th, started granting visas on arrival for all citizens of African Union (AU) member states.
H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the AU Commission, speaking at the official launch event in Addis Ababa said, “This is a truly historic moment. By taking this decision, Ethiopia is, once again, demonstrating its commitment to the ideals of our Union and the principles which inform pan-Africanism”. He further commended Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Ethiopian Government for this landmark step.

Who is eligible?
Any person with a valid passport of an AU member state will be issued an Ethiopian visa on arrival with no preconditions.
How can one be acquired?
- Visitors can travel directly to Ethiopia and get a visa on arrival by filling a basic information form and paying a visa fee, after which entry will be granted.
