The European Union (EU) signs the 11th EDF National Indicative Programme, allocating to the Government of Seychelles an envelope of EUR 2.2 million to support the country’s development strategy through capacity building of national human resources.

Under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF), which covers the period 2014-2020, the Government of Seychelles has been granted EUR 2.2 million which will be used to enhance institutional capacities in the formulation and implementation of action in line with the EU-Seychelles cooperation agenda and portfolio.

EU intervention will be aligned with emerging areas of intervention within the framework of the Seychelles Sustainable Development Strategy (SSDS) and the regional integration agenda. For a meaningful impact, the EU will concentrate on the provision of well-targeted interventions that will facilitate access to innovative financing such as blending operations to leverage infrastructure investments and public-private partnerships operations.

The 11th EDF will act as a key facility which Government has at its disposal to prepare and implement programmes under selected areas of intervention of the SSDS such as climate change, environment etc. As was the case under the 10th EDF, supporting these areas is crucial to securing inclusive and sustainable growth, which is a focus of the EU’s Agenda for Change,” said Acting EU Head of Delegation, Aldo Dell’ Ariccia,

Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Authorising Officer of the EDF noted, “Europe remains Seychelles main development and trading partner, and the NIP represents an important facet in the programming of EU aid under the European Development Fund. The signing of the NIP today represents a key phase in the longstanding cooperation between the Seychelles and underlines the central role of sustainable long term development as accentuated in our national strategy.”
