Farewell call by H.E. Mr Khaled El Abyad

On Thursday 29th September 2022, H.E. Mr Khaled El Abyad, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Seychelles paid a farewell call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, at Maison Queau de Quinssy, to mark the end of his tenure.

Minister Radegonde expressed his appreciation to Ambassador El Abyad for the support extended by Egypt since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He further noted that both countries have worked closely to nurture not only their friendship, but also build on their bilateral cooperation on issues of common interest. The Minister stated, “Although the Covid 19 pandemic disrupted our plans, we have done everything within our means to further our goals and I look forward to working closely with your successor in order to promote continued collaboration both on the regional and international arena”.

Minister Radegonde and Ambassador El Abyad also discussed the forthcoming COP 27 World Leaders Summit which will take place in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt in November this year.

On his part, Ambassador El Abyad conveyed his gratitude to the Minister for his continued support.  He added that Egypt is eager to continue to promote areas of cooperation with Seychelles, with regard to investment and trade and this would be passed on to his predecessor.

During the meeting, the two diplomats also agreed that there are still areas of cooperation to explore especially in the field of tourism and diversification of the market which can be facilitated with the signing of a bilateral aviation service agreement. 

Also present at the meeting were the Principal Counsellor for Consular Affairs, Ms Myrna Hoareau, Principal Counsellor for Bilateral Affairs, Mrs Johnette Stephen and the Desk Officer for Egypt, Mr Davis Mathiot.
