The Foreign Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Marie Louise Potter has written a message of solidarity to Mr Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister denouncing the assassination of Andrey Karlov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to the Republic of Turkey.

Ambassador Karlov was assassinated at an art exhibition on Ankara, the Capital of Turkey.

In her message, Foreign Secretary Potter said that Seychelles stands in solidarity with Russia and joins Turkey in condemning hateful acts of terrorism and extended unwavering support to the normalisation of Turkey-Russia relations, which was clearly an attempt at undermining this process.

“Seychelles firmly believes in the primacy of diplomacy as a means to resolve crises. As such, this heinous crime is an attack not only on Russia and its relationship with the Republic of Turkey but on the diplomatic community as a whole,” said Foreign Secretary Marie-Louise Potter.
