Forum of Cooperation China Africa

The Vice President, Mr Joseph Belmont, will represent Seychelles at the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Saturday and Sunday this week.

 Prior to that, Ambassador Philippe Le Gall and Mr Conrad Mederic, DG Bilateral Affairs/MFA are attending the Senior Officials Meeting that started this morning.

 It is to be noted that Seychelles has participated in all FOCAC meetings since it was established in 2000 in Beijing. President James Michel attended the Beijing Summit of FOCAC IN 2006.

 Seychelles has benefitted tremendously under the programme as witnessed by various projects being undertaken by China in Seychelles.

 A formal Declaration and an Action Plan 2010-2012  are to be adopted in Sharm el Sheikh, pushing forward cooperation in various fields such as agriculture, food safety, infrastructure construction, trade, investment and healthcare. Other topics on the agenda of the Conference include climate change, security, and the consequences of the global economic downturn on developing African economies.

 During his visit, Vice President Belmont is expected to meet with President Hosny Mobarak, as well as several African Heads of State and Government. Bilateral talks with Chinese Premier, Mr. Wen Jiabao, are also on the program of Seychelles’ Head of Delegation.
