Her Excellency, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana is concluding her official working visit to Seychelles. Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles, Jean-Paul Adam described her visit as one that reinforces a natural friendship and partnership; between two countries with interrelated histories and a common vision for a prosperous and shared future.

Mrs Tetteh and Minister Adam have signed five memoranda of understanding on behalf of their Governments; including a general cooperation agreement, a memorandum of understating on political consultations, a visa waiver agreement, double taxation avoidance agreement and an administrative agreement pertaining to the re-exportation of tuna fish to the European Union from either country.

At a press conference held yesterday at Maison Queau de Quinssy, Minister Adam stated that the signing of these agreements would usher a new era in diplomatic relations between the two countries, who both hold democracy, human rights and regional integration at the top of their agendas.

On her part, Mrs Tetteh expressed the desire that these agreements were only a first step in establishing even greater people to people cooperation and would spur business people in both countries to create mutually beneficial opportunities. “We would have achieved our objectives if these these agreements manage to bring our people closer together” said Mrs Tetteh.

Minister Tetteh also highlighted the importance of Seychelles conceptualisation of the ‘Blue Economy,’ being a key factor in terms of sustainable development and essential element for all states regardless of their geographic location. She also expressed Ghana’s support for Seychelles’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

As part of her visit, Minister Tetteh held talks with President James Michel, Vice-President Danny Faure and met with Ministers and other stakeholders.
