HEAD OF THE EU DELEGATION PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON THE MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TOURISM
Ambassador Vincent Degert, Head of the European Union Delegation accredited to Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, on Thursday 5th May 2022.
Minister Radegonde extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Degert, who was appreciative and glad to be back in Seychelles.
During the discussions, the collaboration in key areas of cooperation including institutional capacity building, maritime security, fisheries and trade were highlighted, and both parties expressed that they were pleased with the implementation of EU’s development support in Seychelles.
Minister Radegonde congratulated the work of the EUNAVFOR for the successful operations undertaken in the Indian Ocean to combat illicit maritime crimes, in particular drug trafficking and made reference to the recent seizure of at least 2 tons of illicit drugs, some of which were destined for Seychelles.
During his visit to the Seychelles, Ambassador Degert met with various stakeholders to discuss other pertinent issues such as maritime security and capacity building support being provided to Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles (ACCS).
Ambassador Degert’s visit to Seychelles also coincided with the Europe Day celebrations and was an opportunity to highlight the long-standing EU-Seychelles partnership.
Present at the meeting were the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, Director General for Multilateral Affairs, Ms. Amenda Padayachy, Director General for Regional Affairs, Mr. Steve Lalande, Director for Multilateral Affairs, Mr. Jean-Paul d’Offay and Second Secretary, Mr. Marco Larsen.
