On Thursday, 11 December 2025, the Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mrs. Iraida de la Caridad Guerrero Zúñiga, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Seychelles and Cuba, particularly in the areas of health and education.

The discussions also explored additional avenues for collaboration, including sports, culture, and the sharing of expertise through exchanges involving diplomatic staff from the Ministry.

Both parties acknowledged Cuba’s continued progress in various sectors despite the embargo placed on the country, highlighting in particular the significant advancements made in biotechnology, which were evident during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador-designate de la Caridad Guerrero Zúñiga expressed her commitment to working closely with the Ministry to build on the solid foundation established by her predecessor. She is scheduled to present her credentials to the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, in a ceremony at State House next week.
