The Government of Seychelles has shown solidarity to the people of Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday suicide bombings, where many Christians lost their lives.

The High Commissioner of Seychelles to Sri Lanka, Mr. Conrad Mederic paid a courtesy call to the Cardinal of Sri Lanka, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith on 15 May 2019, to express condolences on behalf of the President of Seychelles, Mr. Danny Faure and the people of Seychelles.

High Commissioner Mederic also paid visits to the two churches that were targeted by the bombers on this fateful Easter Sunday where he met the parish priest of Saint Anthony’s church, Father Fernando in Kochikade, as well as San Sebastian church in Negombo, where most people lost their lives. It is to be noted that many Seychelles nationals visiting Sri Lanka like to go to St Anthony’s church for special prayers.

On behalf of Seychelles, the Mission made a contribution towards the cause as a gesture of support towards the victims and churches affected by the tragedy. The Cardinal thanked Seychelles for such kindness and generosity whilst emphasizing on the need of assistance in order to treat and rehabilitate those affected by the blasts.
