High Commissioner of Sri Lanka calls on Minister Sylvestre Radegonde

Today, Minister Radegonde met with the newly accredited resident High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, H.E Srimal Wickremasinghe at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. This was the High Commissioner’s first official visit since his accreditation, which took place at State House on Tuesday 20 April 2021.
Minister Radegonde welcomed High Commissioner Wickremasinghe to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism and highlighted on the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries over the years and expressed his wish to continue to maintain such relations.
“Sri Lanka has helped Seychelles in the past, in various areas, we are grateful for that. I wish to renew the thanks and appreciation of not only the Government but the people of Seychelles. I hope High Commissioner, that you will have a very successful mission here” expressed Minister Radegonde.
He also talked about the closure of various Seychelles embassies in particular the embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which was a decision based on the country’s economic situation adding that he, in turn, is pleased that Sri Lanka has maintained its mission here in Victoria.
On his part, High Commissioner Srimal Wickremasinghe expressed the interest to exchange expertise in various projects that will benefit Seychelles and Sri Lanka.
Both parties also discussed the possibility to reactivate flights between Sri Lanka and Seychelles, illegal fishing in the Seychelles waters among others.
Present also at the meeting were Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait and senior officials of the Foreign Affairs Department.
Seychelles and Sri Lanka have established diplomatic relations 1988.
