High Commissioner of Uganda pays a courtesy call on Minister Radegonde

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Dr. Hassan Wasswa Galiwango paid a courtesy call on Minister Sylvestre Radegonde, on Monday 22nd November 2021, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. Dr. Galiwango will present his letters of credential to the President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, on Tuesday 23rd November 2021, at State House, becoming the first High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to be accredited to the Republic of Seychelles.
Minister Radegonde formally welcomed the High Commissioner and his delegation to the Seychelles and to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, stating: “I hope that your tour of duty will be rewarding. We would like to extend the full cooperation of our ministry and that of the government.” Minister Radegonde also expressed his desire to push the relations between the two countries to new heights in order to widen and broaden bilateral relations.
The meeting also focused on the current and potential areas of cooperation between Seychelles and Uganda. . At present, the Educational sector, has a number of Ugandan educators assigned to various state schools. Another key area of cooperation to be explored is the Tourism sector whereby both countries engage in reciprocal exchange and consider mutual initiatives. In terms of developing trade links, both countries are keen to consider commerce opportunities in areas like the importation of agricultural products from Uganda.
Minister Radegonde briefed Dr. Galiwango on the impact of COVID-19 on Seychelles’ economy and the Seychelles government’s ongoing efforts to combat the pandemic.
The long-standing relationship of Seychelles and Uganda dates back to 1992. They are both members of various international organisation; such as the African Union, the Commonwealth amongst others. Dr. Galiwango will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
