Increased surveillance in Seychelles waters by Indian Vessel INS Trishul

Fight against drug trafficking, safeguarding regional maritime security and specialized capacity building for Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) were amongst the topics discussed during the courtesy call by Commanding Officer, Captain Kapil Kaushik of Indian Vessel INS Trishul on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde at Maison Quau de Quinssy  on 27th June 2023.

“The issue of drugs remains a top priority for Seychelles and we value the cooperation and support that we receive from India, who have always been a dependable partner” expressed Minister Radegonde.

On his part, Captain Kaushik reiterated that, “as we share the Indian Ocean waters, the Indian Navy and Coastguard are committed to working hard to stop the drug trade through Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance in the region”.

The visit of Captain Kaushik and officers of INS Trishul coincides with their participation in the National Day Celebrations on the 29th June 2023. Also planned during their visit are engagement activities with the Seychellois through community work at homes for the elderly and the open day exhibition on board INS Trishul for members of the public.
