Indian High Commissioner pays farewell visit to Vice-President Meriton

The High Commissioner of India to Seychelles, H.E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed paid a farewell visit today to Vice President Meriton at the Department of Foreign Affairs, following his two years’ tenure as the Resident High Commissioner of India to Seychelles.

During their interactions, Vice-President Meriton conveyed to H.E. Dr. Sayeed his “mixed feelings” of happiness, pride, and sadness upon learning of his departure from Seychelles. Vice-President Meriton said he is content and proud of the accomplishments achieved under the High Commissioner’s tenure and wished him the very best in his new endeavour. “I am sad that you are leaving us at the moment where we are at a crossroad, with so many projects still unfolding,” said Vice President Meriton.

However, he also expressed his hope that the successor of H.E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed will be able to “understand our plight and peculiarity and our strong partnerships especially regarding maritime security”.

H.E. Dr. Sayeed, on his part, reiterated his Government’ strong commitment to Seychelles and “holds Seychelles as a strong neighbouring country and strategic partner”.
