Nairobi-based Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Dr Roberto Natali, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde on Friday 10th May at Maison Queau de Quinssy.

The Ambassador’s visit, which coincides with the visit of the Italian naval vessel Federico Martinengo in Port Victoria from May 8th to 12th, gave the two diplomats the opportunity to discuss ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Radegonde commended the Italian Government for its support through the EU NAVFOR Operation Atalanta, which demonstrates Italy’s active contribution to the EU’s maritime security efforts to combat piracy and other illicit maritime activities in the region.

During the meeting, the Minister also stressed the importance of the adoption and implementation of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The Seychelles Minister and the Italian Ambassador also touched on the large Seychellois diaspora community in Italy and Seychelles as a preferred holiday destination for the Italian tourists.
