On the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the foundation of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), I extend, on behalf of the Government and people of Seychelles, our warmest greetings to the member states and partners of our organisation.

Today, our 79 member states, come together to celebrate our solidarity, unity in diversity, and shared aspirations for a sustainable and prosperous future, under the aegis of our organisation.

Since its establishment, the OACPS has been a beacon of hope for our nations, promoting dialogue, fostering development, and advocating for the interests of our diverse member states. On this Foundation Day, we commemorate the vision and foresight of the initiators of the Georgetown Agreement, who recognised the strength and potential of our collective voice. Together, we have overcome numerous challenges and achieved remarkable progress, all in pursuit of our common goals.

The OACPS has played, and continues to play, a crucial role in promoting solidarity and cooperation, the sharing of resources, knowledge, and experiences across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Our organisation has consistently advocated for social justice, economic empowerment, and the protection of our shared environment. We have forged partnerships and collaborations that have made a tangible difference in the lives of our people, particularly in areas such as education, health, agriculture, and trade.

With the renewed vigour and commitment for an OACPS-EU partnership agreement, the OACPS will be able to redefine its objectives and set new ambitions to respond to emerging needs and challenges.

As we celebrate this Foundation Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles and values that underpin the OACPS. Let us strive for greater inclusivity, transparency and accountability in our endeavours. Let us continue to advocate for the needs and aspirations of our people, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights are protected. Let us strengthen our bonds of friendship, cooperation and solidarity, and together, we will realise the full potential of the OACPS.
