Mid-Term Review of the Seychelles – South Africa Joint Commission of Cooperation: 17 July 2019

The Principal Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait hosted the Director- General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Mr. K.E Mahoai, and his delegation at the Department of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of a Mid-Term Review of the Seychelles – South Africa Joint Commission of Cooperation.
This review relates to the 2nd Seychelles-South Africa Joint Commission of Cooperation held in Pretoria, South Africa on 9 March 2018.
The meeting was an opportunity to assess the progress made in regard to cooperation between the two countries. Furthermore, the review tackled remaining challenges so that collaborative efforts between Seychelles and South Africa continue to be effectively pursued.
Having commemorated the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations last year, the meeting also reaffirmed the strong ties and common interests that exist between Seychelles and South Africa.
The Mid-Term Review provided yet another occasion to strengthen cooperation in specific sectors namely, foreign affairs, education, health, tourism, trade and investment, agriculture, fisheries, blue economy, arts and culture, youth, sports, police, amongst others.
In concluding, both parties expressed their appreciation for the fruitful exchanges brought forth in the meetings.
The South African delegation is also in Seychelles to attend the unveiling ceremony of the Nelson Mandela Statue on Thursday 18 July, 2019.
