Minister Faure Receives Farewell Call from Austrian Ambassador
As part of his farewell engagements, H.E. Dr. Christian Fellner, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Republic of Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on Mr Barry Faure, Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, on Monday, 8 June 2026, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the longstanding friendship and excellent relations between Seychelles and Austria, as well as the steady progress achieved through bilateral cooperation over the years. Both sides acknowledged the positive collaboration in a number of areas, including capacity-building opportunities for Seychellois nationals and, more recently, initiatives aimed at addressing substance abuse, an issue of significant national concern.
Against this backdrop, discussions focused on opportunities to further deepen bilateral cooperation and expand existing areas of engagement. Particular attention was given to tourism promotion and the diversification of visitor experiences, with both sides recognising the potential for enhanced collaboration in support of sustainable tourism development. The two diplomats also explored avenues for improving air connectivity between Seychelles and Austria as a means of fostering greater exchanges and strengthening people-to-people ties.
Minister Faure and Ambassador Fellner further exchanged views on issues of common concern at the international level, including the unique vulnerabilities and development challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS). In this regard, they underscored the importance of continued advocacy for dedicated financing mechanisms within International Financial Institutions to support climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development initiatives tailored to the specific needs of SIDS.
Minister Faure expressed his sincere appreciation to Ambassador Fellner for his valuable contribution to advancing Seychelles-Austria relations during his tenure. He conveyed his best wishes for success in the Ambassador’s future endeavours and reaffirmed Seychelles’ commitment to maintaining the close and constructive partnership between the two countries. He also expressed his readiness to work closely with Ambassador Fellner’s successor to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Seychelles and Austria.
