Official Visit to Seychelles of H.E Mr. Dinesh K. Patnaik, India’s new Joint Secretary (IOR), 18-22 February, 2019

India’s new Joint Secretary for the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), H.E Mr. Dinesh K. Patnaik, is currently on his first official visit to Seychelles.

On Monday 18th February, he met with Ambassador Barry Faure, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Blue Economy and Executive Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Marina Confait, Principal Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs. They discussed various issues with regards to cooperation between Seychelles and the Republic of India.

After their meeting, there was a short ceremony to sign five MoU’s under the Small Development Project (SDP) Grant. The Designated Minister, Mrs. Macsuzy Mondon, in her capacity as the Minister for Local Government and Culture signed the MoU’s for the Mobile Library Project and followed by two MoU’s for Small Community Development Projects. Minister Jeanne Simeon signed the two MoU’s in her capacity as the Minister for Education for the Renovation Works of Primary and Secondary School Infrastructure Projects.

On Tuesday 19th February, H.E Mr. Dinesh K. Patnaik will pay courtesy calls on President Danny Faure and Vice President Vincent Meriton, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles.

The Republic of India and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on 29th June 1976. Since then, the two countries have been collaborating in areas such as defence, maritime security, energy, agriculture, health, capacity building and much more.

India is currently financing through a grant, the construction of the new magistrate court and will be financing the construction of three major projects: the Government House, the Attorney General’s office and the new Police Headquarters, equipped with a forensic laboratory.
