January 23, 2017

It was in a spirit of fraternity that President Danny Faure has sent a congratulatory letter on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles to H.E. Pravind Jugnauth, on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius.

In his letter President Faure emphasised the special bond shared between the two countries and the common heritage as sister island nations.  “our shared vibrant culture, language and history places even greater emphasis on our vision for a shared future together and our place in the world as island neighbours in the Indian Ocean,” said President Faure. He further gave his engagement that he would work closely with Prime Minister Jugnauth to preserve and foster the inalienable link of friendship between the two countries.

President Faure further expressed the need for close collaboration to highlight the Seychelles Mauritius common interest as small island states through their mutual membership of the Indian Ocean Commission, the African Union, the United Nations as well as other organisations.

President Faure also expressed his desire to further deepen the existing relationship and find new opportunities to develop the ties between the two countries, namely in the areas of climate change, fisheries and further unlocking the opportunities presented by the shared maritime spaces of Mauritius and Seychelles.

The President of the Republic of Seychelles also reiterate that the past 29 years of excellent diplomatic relations bore the hallmark of outstanding cooperation between the countries and the friendship of the people of both Seychelles and Mauritius.

“Your Excellency, during your tenure as Prime Minister, it is my hope that through actions such as the sharing of the Mascarene Plateau our two nations continue to work closely to that end and serve as an example to the region and the world of how states can effectively collaborate in the spirit of fraternity,” said President Faure in his letter.
