The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, has sent a congratulatory message to H.E. Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Republic Day of India.

In his message, President Herminie, stated:

“On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, and in my own name, I extend warm and sincere congratulations to you, to the Government and the people of India on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, commemorating the adoption of India’s Constitution on 26 January 1950.

Republic Day stands as a powerful affirmation of India’s enduring commitment to democracy, constitutional governance and the rule of law. India’s leadership as a major developing economy and a prominent voice of the Global South continues to inspire Seychelles, particularly in advancing inclusive growth, strategic resilience and effective multilateral cooperation.

As a Small Island Developing State, Seychelles is acutely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We therefore greatly value India’s principled advocacy for climate justice and its constructive engagement in global climate negotiations. We look forward to further strengthening cooperation in climate action, including adaptation, disaster resilience, renewable energy, and the sharing of technologies suited to the needs of vulnerable island states.

I also wish to convey our appreciation for India’s sustained engagement in defence and security cooperation, notably in maritime security, capacity-building and training. Enhanced cooperation, including technical assistance and professional exchanges, makes an important contribution to regional stability and the protection of our maritime domain.

Furthermore, Seychelles remains committed to deepening collaboration with India in capacity-building, particularly in human resource development, technical training, education and institutional strengthening, in support of sustainable development and long-term resilience.

I am confident that, under your leadership, the friendly relations between our two countries will continue to grow, guided by mutual respect, solidarity with Small Island Developing States, and a shared commitment to peace, security, and sustainable development.”
