General MA Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of Staff of the General Staff Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) paid a courtesy call on President James Michel this morning at State House. General MA and his delegation are in Seychelles to pursue discussions on the implementation of programs of the defence forces and also to enhance the bilateral cooperation between Seychelles and China.

General MA thanked President Michel for promoting the friendly relations between Seychelles and China in terms of its people and military forces.

They also discussed the remarkable progress made over the years in terms of bilateral cooperation between China and Seychelles,  a relation that has been hailed as being faithful and sincere. 

“We should look into other possibilities on how to further strengthen the excellent relations and military cooperation between the two countries, especially in terms of the anti-piracy campaign, maritime support, peace and stability in the region,” said President Michel.

President Michel thanked China and General MA for the support they have given to Seychelles’ military forces to develop Seychelles’ capability to defend its sovereignty and Chinese support for the anti-piracy campaign.
