Principal Secretary Confait receives newly accredited Serbian ambassador

The newly accredited Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Ristic called on Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait today at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. The Ambassador thanked PS Confait for the warm hospitality and expressed his commitment to enhance cooperation with Seychelles.

On her part, Dr. Confait congratulated the Ambassador and noted “We very much look forward to working with you to further enhance the cooperation between the Republic of Seychelles and the Republic of Serbia and to continue the work by your predecessor.”

Both parties discussed various areas of cooperation such as the education and health sectors, Blue Economy, climate change and overall environmental conservation, among others. Serbia has in the past offered ‘The World in Serbia’ scholarship to Seychellois students and talks also revolved around strengthening this cooperation.

The meeting concluded with the agreement by both Countries to pursue a ‘General Cooperation Agreement’ (GCA). The Ambassador who was accompanied by the resident Honorary Consul for the Republic of Serbia, Dr. Miodrag Todorovic reaffirmed his commitment and concluded: “Let us show the international arena how two countries who are not neighbours are working together for the betterment of the world.”

Diplomatic relations between Seychelles and the Republic of Serbia (as part of the former Yugoslavia) was established on August 1, 1976.
