Principal Secretary Madeleine Meets UNDP Delegation to Discuss Seychelles’ Development Priorities
The Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Ambassador Ian Madeleine, received a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday 27 August, 2026 at Maison Queau de Quinssy.
The delegation, led by RBM Advisor, Ms. Njeri Kamau, is currently in the country to conduct the mid-term review of the country’s programme document, and have had the opportunity to consult with various stakeholders.
One of the key questions raised by Ms. Kamau was how the UNDP could be better aligned with the Seychelles’ needs. Ambassador Madeleine reiterated the national priorities, which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including: renewable energy transition, women’s economic empowerment and inclusion, digital transformation and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) advocacy and international partnerships.
On the topic of SIDS, the Principal Secretary stressed that Seychelles remain committed to advancing the priorities of SIDS and highlighted the need for greater cooperation and coordination between SIDS, including the development of an effective mechanism for consultations and joint action.
Trade, diaspora engagement, and Seychelles’ engagement in implementing the Agenda 2063 were also touched on during the meeting.
