On Thursday, 25 June 2026, the non-resident High Commissioner of Australia to Seychelles, H.E. Ms. Kate Chamley, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the longstanding cooperation between Seychelles and Australia, with particular emphasis on capacity-building initiatives that have benefited Seychellois professionals. These initiatives have included training and exchange programmes in areas such as inter-parliamentary studies, maritime domain awareness, climate change, and aviation safety.

The discussions also highlighted the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen collaboration in maritime security and information sharing, recognising the importance of these areas in addressing common regional and global challenges.

The two diplomats further noted the significant Seychellois diaspora community residing in Australia and explored opportunities to enhance engagement with the diaspora. In this context, they discussed the possibility of organising commemorative activities to mark the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Seychelles and Australia.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on facilitating visa application processes for Seychellois travellers to Australia, as well as on avenues to encourage greater numbers of Australian visitors to Seychelles. In this regard, the importance of improved air connectivity as a means of promoting tourism and people-to-people exchanges was underscored.

The meeting reaffirmed the warm and friendly relations between Seychelles and Australia and the mutual desire to continue deepening cooperation across areas of shared interest.
