Seychelles and Russia sign Visa Waiver Agreement set to Deepen longstanding Ties

Minister for Affairs and Transport, Mr Joël Morgan and His Excellency Ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to Seychelles, Vladimir Belous initialled a visa waiver agreement on behalf of the Republic of Seychelles and the Russian Federation respectively, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy, at a short ceremony held yesterday.
Visa free travel for all Seychelles passport holders to the entire territory of the Russian Federation is expected to come into force in mid December after internal procedures have been completed within the Russian Federation.
Minister Morgan emphasised that visa free travel to Russia is the culmination of hard work of both sides to realise this milestone and reflects the excellent relations shared between Russia and Seychelles.
“Seychelles has further consolidated its position as the highest ranked passport in Africa in terms of visa free travel with this latest signing, and it echoes the confidence that the international community has in Seychelles and its people as well as the trust our international partners have in our country as a stable and viable partner within the international system,” said Minister Morgan.
“This visa waiver will promote greater people to people ties, spur business and tourism development between our countries and allow for Seychellois to immerse themselves in a rich foreign culture which will most certainly enrich their lives,” added the Minister.
Ambassador Vladimir Belous reiterated that the visa waiver agreement is demonstrative of the deep and longstanding relationship between Seychelles and Russia and its respective peoples. Ambassador Belous remarked, “we stress on reciprocity, as does Seychelles. Russians, vacationing in beautiful Seychelles, do not need a visa on arrival. As such, we felt the same courtesy needed to be extended to Seychellois visiting Russia.
“Russia has a lot of cultural and artistic splendour which Seychellois can now discover without requiring a visa,” said Ambassador Belous. “Once our internal procedures are ratified we very much hope to welcome Seychellois to Russia during Christmas period to experience first hand a real Russian winter, quipped the Russian Ambassador.
