Seychelles and the United States reaffirm their commitment to deepen cooperation

The Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, received non-resident American Ambassador to the Republic of Seychelles, Ambassador Henry Jardine, and the Deputy to the Commander for Civil-Military Engagement (DCME) of the United States of America, Ambassador Robert Scott, at Maison Queau de Quinssy on Friday 17th May 2024.

The meeting came against the backdrop of Ambassador Scott’s tour of Mauritius, Madagascar and Seychelles to explore ways to broaden US cooperation in the region.

The two sides recognised the threat that the resurgence of piracy poses which could lead to overall instability of the region, and agreed to enhance collaboration to fight against such illicit maritime activities.

The thrust of the discussions was centered on the importance of promoting maritime domain awareness, enhancing regional cooperation through the sharing of intelligence and providing a legal finish to maritime-related crimes.
