On Monday, 8 June 2026, H.E. Mrs. Tran Thi Thu Thin, Ambassador-designate of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the Republic of Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on Mr Barry Faure, Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the longstanding friendship and cordial relations between Seychelles and Viet Nam. The two diplomats underscored the shared values that unite their countries, including a common commitment to peace, sustainable development, and the well-being of their peoples.

Discussions focused on avenues to revitalise cooperation and further strengthen bilateral relations. In this regard, both sides explored the possibility of concluding a Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of ordinary passports, as well as reviving the Bilateral Air Services Agreement. These initiatives would facilitate greater people-to-people exchanges and contribute to the expansion of tourism, trade, and business ties between the two countries.

They also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation at the multilateral level and further strengthen South-South collaboration. Discussions included the prospect of concluding a General Cooperation Agreement (GCA), which would establish a comprehensive framework for closer engagement and promote the exchange of expertise and best practices in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, culture and heritage, fisheries, agriculture, the blue economy, and digitalisation.

Building on this shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations, H.E. Mrs. Tran highlighted the importance of maintaining regular high-level exchanges between the two countries. On this point, she proposed the possibility of increased official visits, including a prospective visit by Minister Faure to Viet Nam later this year, which could provide an opportunity for the signing of both the General Cooperation Agreement and the Visa Waiver Agreement.

The accreditation ceremony of H.E. Mrs. Tran Thi Thu Thin is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, at State House.
