The Ambassador-designate of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr.
Hatem Yousri Hosni paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr.
Barry Faure, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Monday, 19 January 2026, ahead of his accreditation
ceremony.

The two diplomats touched on various topics of importance to both countries, which included the
incarceration of the two Seychellois prisoners who are currently serving their life sentence in
Egypt. Discussions are still ongoing to secure the transfer of the two Seychellois nationals to
complete their sentence locally.

Minister Faure suggested exchanges between Egypt and Seychelles in the field of preservation of
cultural assets and artefacts. He also took the opportunity to thank the Egyptian government for
their assistance in the field of health and hoped that the MoU for health would be signed soon.
The Minister also expressed his eagerness to initiate the process to sign a Visa Waiver Agreement
with the Egyptian government for Seychellois holding normal passports to enter Egypt without
having to apply for a visa beforehand or alternatively receiving a visa upon arrival.

Minister Faure and Ambassador-designate Hosni also discussed potential activities which could
be organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between
Seychelles and Egypt, which took place on July 15, 1976.
