Seychelles Extends Condolences to Cambodia

Seychelles Non-Resident-Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Philippe Le Gall, has represented Seychelles at the cremation ceremony of former King Norodom Sihanouk and presented the condolences of President James Michel, the Government and the People of Seychelles to King Norodom Sihamoni and to the Queen Mother, Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.
Apart from the Diplomatic corps, many guests including French Premier Mr. Jean-Marc Ayrault, Jia Qinglin, Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Japanese Prince Akishino attended the ceremony that took place on the 4th January at the end of a 4-day special public holiday.
King father Norodom Sihanouk – as he was called – died on October 15 in Beijing.
Seychelles and Cambodia enjoy excellent diplomatic relations since their establishment in 1980. In 2010 the two countries signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement and in 2012, the year during which Cambodia was the chair of ASEAN, a Visa Waiver allowing all Seychellois passport holders to enter the country for stays shorter or equivalent to 2 weeks. As a testimony of these good relations, the Cambodian National Election committee has recently invited the Government of the Republic of Seychelles to send a delegation to observe Cambodia’s National Assembly Election on July 23 this year.
