The Foreign Affairs Department will be re-grouping its diplomatic and consular representatives for the week of Monday 24th October to Friday 28th October 2022. The week will begin with the annual Ambassador’s Retreat on Monday 24th October to Tuesday 25th October.

This will be followed by the Department’s biennial Honorary Consuls Conference which will be officially launched by the President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan and First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, at State House, on Tuesday evening.

The Conference will be held at the Savoy Hotel and Spa from Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th October.

This year’s edition, the first to be held physically since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, will be based on the theme ‘Harnessing Opportunities through Diplomatic Relations’. The conference will discuss how to explore opportunities to bring additional benefits in various areas of national importance to Seychelles. These discussions will include presentations from various sectors, such as Blue Economy, Tourism and Aquaculture development, amongst others.

On Thursday 27th October, in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, the honorary consuls will also get the opportunity to visit the 26 districts of the three main islands and engage in discussions with the district authorities. The aim of this exercise is to invite the consuls to “Adopt a district”. The visitwill also enable them to understand the needs of the communities and create a partnership with their adopted districts.

On Friday 28th October, the final day of the conference, the consuls will be able to deliberate on their district visits and also provide their feedback on the various presentations and ways forward from the group discussions.

We wish all the Seychelles honorary consuls happy deliberations.
