The Government of the Republic of Seychelles continues to monitor with grave concern the evolving security situation involving the Islamic Republic of Iran, the State of Israel, and the United States. Following the statement issued by the Office of the President on 1 March 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Diaspora is escalating its efforts to safeguard the welfare of Seychellois nationals in the affected region.

While Seychelles maintains its call for an immediate de-escalation and maximum restraint, the Government takes note of recent indications of a potential opening for diplomatic engagement. Seychelles urges all parties to seize any opportunity for dialogue to prevent further loss of life and regional instability.

Key Updates and Actions:

  • Evacuation Preparedness: In accordance with State House directives, the Ministry, in coordination with relevant local authorities, has finalized a contingency evacuation plan. This is a precautionary measure to ensure the state’s readiness should a voluntary evacuation of Seychellois nationals become necessary.
  • Diplomatic Coordination: The Seychelles Embassy in Abu Dhabi remains in active, 24-hour contact with Seychellois communities and visitors across the region.
  • Maritime & Economic Security: The Government reiterates its concern regarding the safety of international sea routes. Given Seychelles’ strategic position, any disruption to maritime security poses a direct threat to the national economy and the stability of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

“Our priority remains the safety of our citizens. While we are heartened by any move toward negotiations, we must remain prepared for all outcomes. We urge all sides to adhere to international humanitarian law and prioritize the protection of civilian infrastructure,” stated the Minister for Foreign Affairs & Diaspora.
