Seychelles participates in the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda
Ambassador Conrad Mederic, Permanent Representative to the African Union and Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles in Addis Ababa, represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Seychelles at the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Kampala, Uganda from the 15 –16 October 2025. He was accompanied by Ms. Leeza Memee, Second Secretary from the Foreign Affairs Department.
The meeting was convened to review the progress made in the implementation of decisions adopted during the last summit of Heads of State and Government of the NAM, which took place in January 2024, under the chairmanship of Uganda.
In his remarks, Ambassador Mederic spoke on the importance of the progress made to date, but also on the need to reflect on the state of the world’s affairs as it currently stands and the importance of international cooperation to combat emerging global challenges.
He further urged that climate action must not be overlooked due to other concerns that may demand attention, pushing for solution-based approaches that can help countries build resilience, such as the operationalisation of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) by the international decision-making processes of development organisations and International Financial Institutions (IFIs) as well as Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Ambassador also met with high government officials from the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of the Philippines, and the Portuguese Republic, to discuss bilateral and other matters of mutual interest.
NAM was established in 1961 in Belgrade and remains, to this day, the second largest international organisation after the United Nations with 121 states. Seychelles has been a member of NAM since 1976.
