The Alliance of Small Island States has decided to hold a ministerial conference in Seychelles from 11th to 12th November 2014 to further build island solidarity ahead of crucial climate talks to take place in Lima, Peru in December, and ahead of the proposed culmination of a legally binding agreement on climate change in Paris in 2015.

This meeting will also provide momentum following from the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in Samoa where SIDS have agreed the SAMOA pathway- a template to ensure the sustainable development of SIDS in a sustainable world.

The meeting also follows the Climate Summit convened by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in New York, which was addressed by President James Michel.

The Seychelles delegation in New York engaged with several Small Island Developing State (SIDS) partners to emphasise the potential of SIDS-SIDS partnerships and to build a stronger institutional structure for AOSIS.

In meetings with Ambassador Marlene Moses, the Chair of Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Seychelles’ delegation was pleased to confirm the hosting of the meeting and looked forward to further engagement with the community of island nations after the successful conference in Samoa.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean-Paul Adam also engaged with his counterpart from Fiji on the importance of this meeting towards ensuring that AOSIS goes to Lima fully prepared for the negotiations.
