Seychelles wins an award from the Climate Bonds Initiative

On Tuesday 5 March, Seychelles was awarded ‘for issuing the first public sector green bond’, i.e. the Blue Bond, from the Climate Bonds Initiative. The award was collected by High Commissioner Derick Ally on behalf of Vice-President Vincent Meriton. In his acceptance message the Vice-President addressed the efforts made in Seychelles in transitioning to sustainable fisheries. The Vice-President thanked partners and investors who have assisted Seychelles with this transaction. He also thanked the Climate Bonds Initiative for the award.

“As custodians of globally significant biodiversity, the Republic of Seychelles has been at the forefront of developing novel financial institutions to support our plans for strengthening climate resilience and adaptation.” said the Vice-President and he further added “We would like to thank our investors and the many partners who assisted us with this transaction, and our local partners in bringing bond proceeds to the ultimate beneficiaries, the Seychellois people. Finally we thank the Climate Bonds Initiative for this prestigious award.”
