The Seychellois diaspora community in Perth, Australia, has generously contributed SCR 30,000 to the Cancer Concern Association Seychelles. The funds were raised during activities celebrating Seychelles’ National Day, organised by the Honorary Consulate of Seychelles in Western Australia.

On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, a brief ceremony was held at Maison Queau de Quinssy, where Mr. Travis Payet, Officer in charge of the Diaspora Unit at the Foreign Affairs Department, officially presented the donation to Ms. Dinaz Van der Lans, Chairperson of the Cancer Concern Association Seychelles.

Speaking on behalf of the Seychelles Honorary Consul in Western Australia, Mr. Patrick Barallon, Mr. Payet expressed gratitude to the Seychellois community in Perth for their generous support. He emphasised that this contribution was made possible by their strong spirit of solidarity during the Consulate’s annual Family Fun Day celebrations, as well as by the dedication of numerous volunteers who help make these events successful.

Ms. Van der Lans, accompanied by Ms. Rosie Morel and Ms. Gina Laporte, warmly welcomed the donation. She acknowledged that every form of support, no matter the size, significantly impacts their mission. She expressed her appreciation, noting that the funds will be used to assist those currently battling cancer. Additionally, she encouraged collaboration with other diaspora communities to raise awareness about cancer and support those affected.

The event, organised by the Diaspora Unit, is part of ongoing efforts to engage with the diaspora and promote community initiatives. The Seychellois community in Western Australia is one of the most dynamic overseas groups, playing an important role in preserving the culture and traditions of Seychelles abroad.
