South African Migration Management (SAMM) Project coordinator meets with the Diaspora Unit

Mr Sunday Omoyeni, the International Migration Organisation’s (IOM) Project Coordinator for the SAMM, accompanied by the IOM’s National Programme & Policy Officer for Mauritius and Seychelles, Niven Muneesamy, met with Director General Jacques Belle, together with officers of the Diaspora unit to discuss the SAMM project, as well as various mixed migration issues including the regional diaspora programme.
The Southern Africa Migration Management (SAMM) Project, funded by the European Commission, is a four-year project to improve migration management in the Southern Africa and Indian Ocean region. It is implemented by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Mr Omoyeni, through his presentation, highlighted the importance of efficient migration management, including the collection of migration data. He took the opportunity to commend Seychelles for including migration indicators in its recent national census.
Whereas Mr Belle, on his part, renewed the Foreign Affairs Department’s support to SAMM, particularly through the Indian Ocean Migration Dialogue. He also offered insights on the country’s move to know and engage with its diaspora and welcomed any possible support through the SAMM and IOM.
