The Government of the Republic of Seychelles is following with deep concern the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East and the continued escalation of hostilities in the region.  Recent developments are generating serious alarm within the international community, as the intensification of military activity risks broadening the confrontation and further undermining stability in an already fragile environment. The speed with which tensions have intensified underlines the vulnerability of the regional security landscape and highlights the urgent need for efforts to prevent further escalation.

Seychelles profoundly regrets the tragic loss of life and the damage inflicted on civilian infrastructure as a result of the ongoing conflict. We express our heartfelt sorrow for the immense hardship endured by innocent civilians, who continue to bear the greatest cost of violence and instability. Many families have been displaced, communities disrupted and essential services severely affected, aggravating the humanitarian difficulties faced by those living in areas directly impacted by the fighting.

Consistent with the principles outlined in the recent statement of the African Union, Seychelles reaffirms its conviction that dialogue and diplomacy represent the only viable means of addressing this tragic situation. The persistence and expansion of military confrontation threaten additional casualties, deeper humanitarian suffering and broader instability within an already strained global context. For small and vulnerable states, including island nations, the repercussions are often felt far beyond the immediate theatre of conflict through disruptions to international supply chains, energy markets and overall economic stability.

The Government of Seychelles therefore calls for an immediate ceasefire and urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint while prioritising the protection of civilian lives and essential infrastructure. Compliance with international humanitarian law and the safeguarding of non-combatants must remain paramount at all times. Reaffirming its commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter – including the peaceful settlement of disputes, respect for international law and the promotion of international peace and security – Seychelles encourages renewed diplomatic engagement aimed at securing a peaceful and lasting settlement.

Seychelles also aligns itself with the wider international community in appealing for restraint and intensified diplomatic initiatives to halt the violence and ease the suffering of affected populations. Our country expresses the sincere hope that wisdom and dialogue will prevail, enabling de-escalation and the restoration of peace and stability across the region. Seychelles further reiterates its readiness to support international efforts that promote humanitarian relief and broader initiatives aimed at stabilisation and recovery.

At this critical juncture, Seychelles emphasises the importance of strengthened multilateral cooperation in responding to the consequences of the crisis. The global community must work collectively to encourage constructive engagement and facilitate pathways toward a durable settlement. Sustained diplomatic initiatives, mutual understanding and a renewed commitment to peaceful interaction remain essential to restoring stability and easing the hardship experienced by those affected.
