Yesterday, the newly accredited Ambassador to the Confederation of Switzerland, H.E Chasper Sarrot, called on the Principal Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Marina Confait today at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. Dr. Confait welcomed the ambassador and his wife to the Seychelles and on behalf of the government, congratulated him on his new appointment.

“I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize on the importance of friendship and cooperation that exist between the Confederation of Switzerland and Seychelles. To point out that the Swiss has contributed a lot towards the tourism sector, that is an important pillar to Seychelles’ economy, not to mention corporation in the cultural and aviation sectors. We are also united when it comes to the fight against climate change, sustainable development and peace talks,” conveyed Dr. Confait.

Topics of discussion involved tourism and health sectors, scholarships and small projects. It was also noted that Seychelles has given its support for the nomination of Switzerland as a member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

“Switzerland is a reliable partner when it comes to the issues of small states since we are also small. We are always supporting the promotion of peace and security and I think it will be a good voice for your country as well. It’s obviously an internal challenge to convince the Swiss people as to why we should be a member of the UN Security Council. As you know, Switzerland is a neutral country and we take this opportunity to express our thanks for the support Seychelles has provided,” expressed H.E Sarrot.

Seychelles and Switzerland engaged in bilateral relations in 1981.
