The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure received the United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) for Seychelles and Mauritius, Ms. Lisa Singh on Friday 26 June 2026 at Maison Queau de Quinssy.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress on areas of cooperation, while also identifying new priorities for collaboration between the Government of Seychelles and the United Nations system. Among the key areas discussed was the need to strengthen awareness and preventive measures aimed at addressing the growing impact of cyber violence on the youths. In this regard, the UNRC proposed enhanced public sensitisation campaigns through national media platforms, including dissemination of educational video content.

The meeting also explored opportunities to expand regional pooled procurement initiatives beyond the health sector into other areas where Small Island Developing States (SIDS) could benefit from greater economies of scale. Ms. Singh underscored the importance of continued support to the pooled procurement secretariat to ensure its long-term sustainability and effectiveness as a self-sustaining regional mechanism.

Further discussions focused on strengthening technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives across various sectors in support of Seychelles’ national development priorities.

Ms. Singh also highlighted the importance of improving coordination among development partners operating in Seychelles. Enhanced coordination would help prevent overlaps and duplication of programmes and interventions, while ensuring that development assistance is better aligned with national priorities.

The meeting further discussed the value of building national capacity in Systems Thinking and Strategic Foresight, an initiative that the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office has been coordinating in Seychelles. These training programmes are designed to equip government officials and other stakeholders with practical tools to better anticipate emerging challenges, analyse complex and interconnected issues, and develop evidence-based, forward-looking policies.

The Minister welcomed the continued partnership between Seychelles and the United Nations and expressed appreciation for the UN’s ongoing support in advancing the country’s development agenda.
